An Oral History of the Gunnison Valley Video Series: Pete Dunda

Pete Dunda was born in 1939 and raised in Pueblo, CO. At age five his father taught him several songs on a small accordion. Pete began formal lessons at age seven and studied for nine year under Classical Accordion Master Teacher, Mr. Fabian Hrutkay. At age 13 Pete was a three time Grand Winner of the Eagles Talent Show. H also was featured on several local Radio and TV programs. Pete formed the "Pete Band" in 1997 and regularly plays for dances in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver, Gunnison and Crested Butte. The Band also plays for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, family reunions and Oktoberfests. Annual gigs in the Gunnison and Crested Butte area include the Memorial Day dance in Crested Butte, the Flauschink dance in Crested Butte celebrating the end of ski season, and two dances in Almont for July 3rd and 4th. Pete also performs for retirement and nuring homes, the Pioneer Museum's annual dinner and other community events. Pete and Susan live year round in their home on the Taylor River. Pete's other hobbies are fly-fishing, skiing, golfing, dancing and back packing. However, the accordion and music are his number one love.
