Description

"The first objective is to educate the reader regarding the history of Colorado drugstores and the evolution and decline of proprietor operated pharmacies around the state. The student of history will find three essays dealing with different aspects and phases of drugstore history, from the earliest settlement of Colorado up through the advent of the earliest "chain" drugstores. Individual drugstore and druggist profiles are included to expand the appreciation and interest in local history. The second objective is to provide the reader with information about the companies that manufactured prescription ware for use in Colorado. Using numerous old bottle manufacturing catalogs, the trade names originally ascribed to certain prescription bottles as well as many of the original patent dates have been determined. It is hoped that by using this nomenclature, bottle collectors will be able to use terminology that will allow them to communicate more effectively about these lesser known, but increasingly popular, collectibles. Last, but not least, Colorado bottle collectors will find over 300 pages containing hundreds of illustrations of Colorado prescription bottles as well as additional sections dealing with other drugstore related collectibles. By utilizing computer technology, a scanning of each bottle or collectible was made, and the need for drawing was eliminated." -- page 5.
