Joe Danni's Grandfather came to Crested Butte from Italy in 1893 and worked as a carpenter and black smith for several years before he sent for his family. After the family arrived in Crested Butte, Joe's grandfather bought a ranch in the Jack's Cabin Valley. Joe attended school in the one room schoolhouse at Jack's Cabin through the eighth grade. Joe finished high school in Gunnison boarding with several different families. Joe joined the Navy and spent the last three years of WWII in the submarine service. When the war was over, he and Gwen were married and he bought his grandfather's ranch working as partners with his father. Joe's stories of his life on the ranch are rich in the history of the Jack's Cabin Valley and Gunnison County.
