D. & R.G Railroad
Description
"D. & R.G. Railroad" - caption from Edwards School Scrapbook, page 16. The scrapbook was created as a youth citizens' league project between 1954-1955.
The railroad would haul zinc out of the mines at Gilman for several decades. Three buildings are visible, including one perched on the mountainside. At far right, a sign says "Eagle Mines of the Empire Zinc Co". A tailings pipe appears to be dumping into the Eagle River (midground). The town of Gilman was effectively closed in 1984 and was deemed an EPA Superfund site.
