Margaret Smith, Edith Eidem, and Delia Bridget O'Callaghan, three WW II ex-Wacs, bought the Ranch in February 1947 from Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stewart. They operated the 300-acre ranch as a dude ranch. A back view of "Kate's place," the Strohm residence in Gypsum [2nd and Eagle Streets]. George Strohm bought the former Poor Farm in 1939 for $5,000. The Poor Farm provided assistance to the elderly, disabled and homeless before Social Security, Medicare, etc., and was situated on land that now is the location for the Town Park and Bertroch subdivision.
