"In 1917 Howard and Mattie Van Horn and daughters came over from Edwards on the Eagle River and bought part of the Groh ranch from Hollis Brooks, the owner at that time. The land they bought had about thirty acres in cultivation and under a ditch. There were no other improvements except some fence, so the Van Horns built this better than average ranch house and other buildings so necessary on every ranch. A barn on the C. F. Lloyd Ranch. Lettering on the barn roof says, "Jones 'diamond' J Ranch," as the ranch was part owned or operated by a step-son, Wayne Jones. Fencing and scrap lumber is in the left foreground. (Wayne T. Jones was an Eagle County Commissioner in the early 1940s.)

"The McCoy Hotel as it appeared when Charles H. 'Daddy' McCoy was operating it in 1904. The photo was taken looking south west. The east end of the building was the kitchen and dining room, the lobby, Post Office and the McCoys living quarters in the center while the west end was mostly guest rooms and a large hall for community gatherings, dances, etc. In later years the ground floor was converted into a store. The Tom Elliott place on Rock Creek. The ranch house is on the right with corrals and barn at left. The ranch is in Routt County, two miles north of McCoy. Irrigation was from the creek in order to grow supplementary feed for winter.s
