Jerome C. and Luella Smith Hawley were among the earlier settlers of Eagle County, ranching at the mouth of Squaw Creek around 1900. Upon retiring, they left the ranch to their son, Ezra J. Hawley. Margurite, Ezra's daughter, became a teacher for the Southern California Bible College in Pasadena, California.

"It still has the appearance of one, but hardly resembles the old Yarmony Creek log school that was built by volunteer labor in 1906, only the windows look the same. It served its purpose well until the one room schools were discontinued in favor of consolidated shcools in 1950.
